Small Portable Chicken Coop or Rabbit Hutch Review

This small portable chicken coop or rabbit hutch lets children really enjoy interacting with their pets. It’s perfect for Rabbits, Ducks, Guinea Pigs, Quail or Chickens. 

The raised perch keeps your poultry safe, dry and warm, especially on rainy, windy cold days. It’s also great in the heat as they are shielded from the hot sun in their nesting boxes.

The 58″ long chicken coop comes with a nesting box and ramp. Your poultry can lay their eggs in the nesting box. They can peck and roam and nibble the grass on the ground or walk up the ramp into their hideaway. You can open a side door to access the box and take out the eggs. You can watch your pets through the wire mesh walls and door. 

There is a removable bottom sliding tray for easy cleaning of the enclosed nesting box. The pitched roof keeps the rain off. The wire mesh fences are for fresh air ventilation and to protect your poultry from the outside predators or prevent the pets from wandering away. 

It’s constructed of natural fir wood and painted with eco-friendly waterproof non-toxic varnish. The cage is waterproof, anti-corrosion, UV-resistant and long-lasting.  I had mine for 3 years and then sold it, still in excellent condition. When I advertised it for sale I had a flood of eager buyers wanting to snap it up.

The cage is not only good for chickens but also nice for any other small animals, for example: Rabbits, Ducks, Guinea Pigs, Quail or Birds.

Pros

It is light to lift. Two people, one on each end, can lift and move the coop to a new location so the pets have a new, fresh lawn to nibble. One person alone can move it by shifting the end to the side and then the other end, or easily dragged. 

It is attractive. Cute, adorable. A very cool pet house! You could not cut, measure and build something so nice yourself at this price. This kit is all pre-measured and painted with all screws, hinges, ready to assemble. 

It is easy to assemble. My 2 teenage girls just started putting it together, following the enclosed instructions, no problem. It took a couple hours. They were using just a screwdriver and their hands were getting sore from screwing it all together. I brought out the cordless drill/screwdriver – so much easier! 

It’s expandable. If you have a few more chickens you can put this hutch inside a larger kennel or pasture. This gives the chickens a wider range to wander. They have this hutch as their home base.  

Cons 

This is not a full size chicken coop for a large flock of chickens. Rather, it is meant for one or two chickens, Guinea pigs or pet bunnies.  I would describe this as child size.  A little play place for your children to care for their pets. 

Some customers said the walls were too thin and it felt too light or weak. I found it to be sturdy and easy to pick up and move. Honestly, chickens and rabbits are too small and lightweight to knock out a wall. This is not for a puppy or stronger animal that would force its way out. 

I’ve loved watching the pets having free range and a secure place to roost. The children especially enjoy the pets more, safely interacting with them in their cute house. So lovely and peaceful.
